Carly

Let everything happen to you. Beauty and terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final.
— Rainer Maria Rilke

Carly is a vibe. A most unusual 20-year-old, and this is meant in the best way.

She travels to Victor Rose from close to downtown, just to capture the feeling that the space offers. And a hot vanilla latte or the cold brew that first drew her in several years ago.

Wise beyond her years, Carly is often spotted with a book on her table that few people her age (or any age for that matter) are reading, something usually related to personal and spiritual development. Sharing this real estate with her book is the occasional confetti cookie, just to make this sage soul “feel like a kid again!”.

Tell us about yourself

I’m in my final semester at John Abbott College in ALC (Arts, Literature, & Communication). I currently don’t have any university plans and will be taking a semester off (maybe a year) to figure out what I want to do and have a moment to relax after a busy past three years. This summer I’m going to Europe for the first time with my best friend! We’re planning on travelling for six weeks seeing seven different countries.

How does Victor Rose fit into your daily/weekly routine?

Despite the fact that I live fairly far away, I still go to Victor Rose as my primary coffee house. I usually go in the morning before class or I’ll treat myself after class – it often helps me decompress before a long drive home. I fell in love with not only the coffee when I started going two years ago, but also the act of being in the village.

Have you made any personal connections with anyone while you were at Victor Rose?

I’ve gained connections with the baristas, to the point where I come in and they automatically know my order. We always engage in friendly conversations. I also feel like I know most of the regulars despite not knowing anything personal about them (that’s how much time I spend there!)

One of my favourite moments happened just a few weeks ago, when I was sitting at a table a few minutes before they were closing. I was doing my own thing when a man came in with his guitar and started to play. Getting to experience this intimate moment at one of my favorite places felt like such a blissful moment for me! I find it very much represents the true nature of Victor Rose and the people who go there.
